Founded in December 1958, Guangdong Chao Opera Institute is a national-level protected unit for intangible cultural heritage projects and the largest and most representative troupe in the Chao Opera field. Three of its actors have won the prestigious Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre. The theatre has created and performed renowned Chao Opera masterpieces such as Chen San Wu Niang, Ci Lang Zhou, and The Princess of Wu Kingdom, earning multiple national and provincial honors including the Wenhua Excellent Repertoire Award, the Wenhua New Repertoire Award, and the China Cao Yu Theatre Award for Excellence.
