What kind of man doesn’t name his dog? Captivating, immersive and above all honest, this portrait reveals the incredible character and life of one man the rural Chinese Mulao village of XiaZhai.  Historically very poor farmers, the Mulao people were an ethnicity steeped in language, and culture. Now, influenced by Han and Modern Chinese culture they have lost almost all their tradition.

When the prospects of city life and financial gain draw the vast majority of young people away from the mountains, one man puts the villager’s prosperity far beyond his own.  The character of village leader Luo Zhiwen runs deep and true.
